The characters are emotionally mature and healthy, and act in intelligent and reasonable ways. I know that shouldn't be so surprising to me, but it is increasingly rare in the "cozy mystery" genre. The mysteries are complex enough to be interesting, but not too dark and dreary. The sisters have a delightful relationship and are all very likeable. The romance is sweet, but doesn't sideline the plot. Overall, one of the better cozy mystery series.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. too predictible By P. Blevins Home Sweet Home is a Sweet Cove Mystery number 6 by J.A Whiting. It is a predictable book but is just fun to read.Captain Martin asks the Roseland sisters (who have paranormal powers) and Mr. Finch to look into some things that are happening on his Aunt’s property. They agree to go visit and their two cats, Euclid and Circe, insist on accompanying them. His Aunt is reluctant to get them involved in the little things that are happening. She thinks it is just because she is getting older. While they are visiting, her gardener interrupts them with the news that a boat had beached on her property. They investigate and find a woman and her child on board; but her husband is missing. She is distracted and seems distant; but she is very concerned about her husband. The sisters and Mr. Finch are drawn into a mystery surrounding the woman and child. What really happened on board that boat? Where is the husband? Can they solve this mystery while helping the Aunt as well?

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Two Possible Murders, Beached Boat, and a Barn Hideaway By Nrhaller This 6th book in the Sweet Cove Mystery Series is anoither excellent read. The sisters each deal with their "gifts" to help find out where the owner of the boat is, if he committed a murder, if he was murdered, and why there is a makeshift hideaway in the barn belonging to the aunt of the Chief of police in Sweet Cove. Readers also get to see the reopening of the Sweet Dreams Bakery and Cafe. I love how the sisters, Mr. Finch, and their special felines work together to gain clues and solve these mysteries. If you like cozy paranormal mysteries then I'm sure you'll love this series too! Hope you enjoy!

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. great read By Amazon Customer Got this after reading THE NUMBERS GAME by the same author. This is a shorter book but has some of the same characters in it like the corrupt councillor De Vere and the police inspector Danny Radford, and there is a development of their personalities. (Radford can pack a good punch it would appear.) I liked the way the plot existed on more than one level and the interaction between the characters was good too. Five starsNo profanity or cussing, no nudity sex etc, lots of twists

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Pathetic By Sebastian This is a horrible book. Is it even a book? A novella? A long short story? Was it written over a weekend? The characters are stick figures with zero depth or subtlety. And the ending? Ridiculous! Let's just kill off the bad guys as fast as possible. Good grief!! It wouldn't be worth reading if it cost zero dollars much less $2.99 on Kindle. Bleah!

Reservations, a mystery/thriller, is set near Gallup, New Mexico where the Navajo, Hopi and Zuni reservations are adjacent. Three tribal leaders have been murdered —murdered in a fashion that suggests the deeds were carried out by the COYOTE, a legendary evil trickster feared by many Native Americans. The tribal president contacts his old friend in the FBI for assistance in solving the crimes and preventing more murders. The FBI selects its star agent, Jack Del Rio, and dispatches him to New Mexico. Del Rio finds a situation tangled in political intrigue, and must work through those issues on his way to solving the mystery. Assisting him in his quest is Officer Lucy Chee. A romantic interest develops between the two. Del Rio identifies the murderer, but not without further bloodshed and loss.

Reservations, by Richard Paolinelli

Review Review by Amanda Hill, Doubleplusbooks/doubleplusbooks.blogspot.com/2016/01/reservations-by-richard-paolinelli.html/Plusgood/This novel mainly follows the story of F.B.I Agent Jack Del Rio as he tries to solve a series of murders on a Navajo reservation. The murders are centered around the legend of the Coyote, and Del Rio's search leads him further and further into the depths of reservation politics./I was completely engaged for this entire novel. Although I had a guess at who the murderer was early on, the author led me on several hunches and had me questioning every turn. This novel reminded me of Murder on the Orient Expressby Agatha Christie because the main character was so well written and the investigation was just as intriguing. There were also several timelines and plot lines used that all converged on this murder investigation, and I really enjoyed the way they all weaved together./It seemed to me that the author was either very familiar with the region, or had done a lot of research on it because the setting he placed the story in felt very real. I also enjoyed the back story given for each of the characters as it helped me place real people in this real setting. I thought the character of Jack Del Rio was well written, and I felt that most of his actions and his reactions were justified. I honestly think that this character made the book, as everything else in the novel was being questioned, you knew which side Del Rio was on. I also liked the character of Lucy Chee, and I think the novel would not have been the same if her point of view had not been included. The romance between them felt natural, and I think the author led up to it well./If I had a critique for this novel, it would be that sometimes Del Rio's actions were a little harsh and I think I raised an eyebrow at a few of them. However, I do understand that the author has written a human character who is allowed a flaw or two. I also doubted the initial conversation between Del Rio and Chee. She had just met him and divulges her really personal past and he in turn does the same. However these were the only details I was doubting, and overall I really liked the novel./*************/5-Star Review by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite"Reservations is a police procedural mystery written by Richard Paolinelli. Ben Yazzie had been prepared for a somewhat different type of day as he would be celebrating his first year in office as the President of the Navajo Nation, but he had no idea just how terrifying a day it would end up being. First, there was the news that his mentor and friend, Martin Kinlichee, whose failure to appear at the anniversary celebrations had prompted a search, was found dying in his home. While the EMTs had been able to briefly resuscitate the man, his brain had been deprived of oxygen for too long. When a second friend and fellow council member, Rick Hoskie, was found murdered in his home with tribal markings carved into his flesh, Yazzie and the authorities decided to take a second look into the supposed 'heart attack' death of Kinlichee. The murder of James Runningelk, a third council member, had Yazzie seriously considering who could be behind the murders, and he suspected it was someone close to him. While he didn't feel he could place his full trust in his protection detail or the local police, he did know of an old college friend who could help him stop the killer."/"Richard Paolinelli's police procedural mystery, Reservations, takes the reader to Window Rock, Arizona, as FBI agent Jack Del Rio and Navajo Nation police officer, Lucy Chee, track down an elusive killer who appears to his victims dressed as Coyote, the trickster. The depth of the author's research into the Dine, Hopi and Zuni people and the delicate balance and harmony the three tribes still struggle to maintain is obvious in this most compelling work. The plot is tight and well-constructed as Del Rio and Chee attempt to narrow down their list of possible suspects. Del Rio is a fresh and intriguing character, and I enjoyed seeing both his psychological approach to interviewing suspects and his occasional bursts of high-velocity action in pursuit of the killer. At the end of the story, several of Paolinelli's characters leave some tantalizing hints about a future challenge facing this intrepid sleuth, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. Reservations is most highly recommended."//readersfavorite.com/book-review/reservations

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good story, needs a proof reader By Auntie Annie A good tale. The author gives, perhaps, a bit too much information on backgrounds and side issues that take attention away from the plot. Plus, his character is very James Bond or Superhero. That said, the plot is tight and intriguing. The perpetrator of the murders is revealed very slowly and through painstaking study. A bit of romance, a bit of dream portent, a bit of Navajo legend. The main problem I had with this book is that it really needed a proof-reader. Words were omitted, words were repeated, and grammar needs attention. I have a feeling most of this occurred when revisions were made and the sentence not adjusted for the changes. I am a stickler for proper grammar, however, and the term 'very unique' almost made me put the book down. I will read the second installment in this series, should the author choose to continue it.

By Jeanie Not knowing the complexities of crime solving on Indian Reservations made this a most compelling read. Not only do you have a serial killer on the loose, taking out the tribal leaders, but it is taking place within their territory. How would the US government handle it? What jurisdiction and what laws would apply? Richard Paolinelli did a remarkable job with research and technique. I am most impressed. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes a fast=paced thriller with lots to learn from.— CJ Loiacono

Richard Paolinelli's mystery-thriller "Reservations" is an excellent "who-done-it" with multiple twisting turns in the plot line By Gibson Michaels Richard Paolinelli's mystery-thriller "Reservations" is an excellent "who-done-it" with multiple twisting turns in the plot line. Every time I thought I had finally gotten a clue as to what was going on, nope... wrong again! Jack Del Rio reminded me a great deal of Dillon Savich, from Catherine Coulter's acclaimed FBI series. The Navajo lore was a very interesting touch. Overall, a great read. Looking forward to reading more Jack Del Rio adventures from Mr. Paolinelli.

Though Americans have seen plenty of news updates on the Iraq War since 2003, few know what it’s like to actually live through the harsh conditions on a daily basis.

In his memoir, B.I.A.P.: Baghdad International Airport, two-tour Iraq War veteran Sergeant Brian L. Gordon shows readers the constant challenges soldiers face on the ground in the Middle East.

Serving first in 2003, Gordon drives a truck delivering bulk fuel and must regularly dodge rocket-propelled grenades and IEDs. His unit also takes on heavy firefights and rocket launcher attacks while manning the water point at the Euphrates River.

Though his division is eventually investigated for conspiracy to sabotage their own vehicles (in order to remain safely back at base), Gordon bravely serves a second tour in 2004 with a new unit, this time delivering tanks and artillery in and out of northern Iraq. This assignment will test him and his comrades to their limits when a mission turns into a twenty-one-day hostage situation at Baghdad International Airport.

B.I.A.P.: Baghdad International Airport gives readers the opportunity to experience the life of a combat soldier struggling with PTSD, striving to serve his country and protect the lives of his comrades.

By Amazon Customer Sergeant Gordon gives an excellent detailed account of what it's like to be a young soldier driving the Army's largest Vehicles across the the hostile desert in Iraq. In just about every discomfort possible. the dull monotony is interrupted by the occasional enemy attacks. The Chaos of being ambushed while in convoy cannot be anticipated or entirely planned for. Sergeant Gordon was also supervising a platoon sized element in addition to driving himself. His descriptions are at times very detailed to give one the complete feel for the discomfort: the stink of diesel fuel permeates everything. Swarms of huge aggressive flies attack wherever there is human body odor, and there's nowhere to take a shower for over a month. He struggle with PTSD still as he relives in bad dreams, shooting it out with insurgents. This is a very personal account of the actual affects of war on our military soldiers that live it every day and every night. A page-turner By Cloggie Downunder Set Up is the first novel in the Luke Dunlop series by Australian author, Peter Corris and is set in Sydney in 1992. Luke Dunlop (not his real name) is an ex-cop turned Witness Protection Officer. In one of his first assignments, his task is to find a way to hide celebrated prison escapee, Kerry Loew, after his testimony against two men accused of the murder of the Assistant Police Commissioner. Things are running smoothly until Dunlop meets the TV-star wife with her own checkered past, Cassie May Loew and he finds his priorities changing. This is a fast-paced action-filled novel with realistic characters, credible dialogue and a plot that twists and turns. Corris`s inclusion of his (then) hometown of Coledale will appeal to Illawarra locals. A page-turner.

Sinclair Rutherford is a young Seattle cop with a taste for the finer things. Doing menial tasks and getting hassled by superiors he doesn't respect are definitely not “finer things.” Good police work and bad luck lead him to crack a case that changes quickly from a career-making break into a high-profile humiliation when footage of his pursuit of the suspect—wildly inappropriate murder weapon in hand—becomes an Internet sensation. But the very publicity that has made Rutherford a laughing stock in the department lands him what could be the job opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to work with a team of eccentric experts, at the direction of a demanding but distracted billionaire. Together, they must solve the murder of a psychologist who specialized in the treatment of patients who give people “the creeps.” There is no shortage of suspects.

16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Excellent, period. By David Michmerhuizen First of all, I have no connection to Mr. Meyer. Some months ago I sampled the first of his Wizard books, which I would classify as gamer fantasy - hysterical gamer fantasy at that. I wound up buying it and quickly consuming the rest, along with his Science Fiction book, Master of Formalities. I've enjoyed all of his work and this latest effort delivers just as well as the others.Let's get one basic thing out of the way for the uninitiate. This author can write, and write well. There are no grammatical mistakes, poor word choices, clumsy sentences or wandering tendrils of plot here. The writing is very good and the story is well thought out and well developed from beginning to end. The characters are each unique and artfully rendered, and the world (in this case, tech-opolis Seattle) convincing. In this case there is no fantasy or science fiction at all, just a core murder mystery played straight, surrounded by a framework that will be familiar to anyone who has read the wizard series. A nebbish finds himself in an unfamiliar and somewhat fantastical environment and has to adapt, adjust and reach within himself to excel. As was the case with the other books, hilarity ensues. Here's hoping that sequels ensue as well.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Funny and intelligent. The only problem is that it ends. By Matthew Greenbaum Scott Meyer is an fantastic author. He is funny, he writes well and most amazingly, he seems to be able to do it with any genre. Unlike his other books, which were also fantastic, everything that happens in this one seems like it could happen in a couple years if not now. And I looked silly in public multiple times because I couldn't help laughing out loud at some of the parts. It ends really well, and could be a standalone book, but I hope very much that there will be sequels. I look forward to reading everything the author writes for a long time to come.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Tries a bit too hard By WiltDurkey You know when John Travolta asks Uma Thurman what movie she did, in Pulp Fiction? And she replies she was the knife expert in a team of 5 girls with a ninja and some other special skill ladies for a TV series pilot that only got 1 showing. Or maybe she was the ninja?A bit how I felt about The Authorities. You have various experts in a team, that is almost a TV series, except they are more a YouTube product, brainchild of a dot com billionaire. And, yes, it doesn't lose any time being cheeky vs the computer nerds, of course. More than once it is pretty clever. But it tries so hard. For example, this takes place in Seattle, a lush place with lots of rain. He has a funny description of a lawn that is either a mossy lawn or a lawn-y moss. But elsewhere we get another description, "neighborhoods being carved out of the jungle" that is wordier and too intentionally hip. Ditto with the sis who sends sms with only punctuation marks, rather than words. It's funny the first time. Less so the 3rd and 4th.A lot of the book is dedicated to setting up the team dynamics for the viewer. There is the clever, maybe too clever, little meta aspect of covering a crime-fighting team that is a media product in its own right. How does the new guy fit in with the team? How will he take his boss' annoying media image requirements for him? Along with tons of tongue-in-cheek humor. Some of it hits, some it misses.Where, unfortunately, much less effort is applied is actually having a detective/crime plot. Yes, there is a murder that they have to solve, but really, it doesn't get much attention. I got the impression it was only there because the book needed a crime to solve in order to justify the team's existence. The overall effect, to me, was very much watching a TV series pilot introducing all the characters and setting itself up for episode #2. Hence my comparison to Uma Thurman's scene. Book #2 might be great, but book #1 mostly sticks to setting it up.Still, not a bad book. The author can write and the idea is intriguing. Bit more effort on the crime aspect needed. Reining in some of the meta & humor would do wonders - that's mostly a question of taste though. While I am (slightly) critical, I can also see why other reviewers with different tastes think highly of it so don't be afraid to follow their lead.3.5/5, rounded down.
