This starts Daisy on her adventures solving mysteries.Daisy has just broken up with her boyfriend and she ran into him at the dog park with his new girlfriend, Sunny Skye. To make matters worse, Sunny berated her for Brent’s being addicted to peanut butter pretzels. Then Brent berated her for talking to Sunny! She needs chocolate! At her friend’s shop, she finds that Samantha has set her up on a blind date. The day has just started, can it get any worse?Daisy heads to Whistling Winds to redecorate a house for painter Luke Longwell. Daisy was recommended for this job by her friend since grade school, Kara Carruthers. Kara was also a model who modeled for many of Luke’s pictures. He did only pictures of women. Kara tells her that she is to redecorate only one room, the party room, otherwise known as the parlor. It is to be lively, modern, and fresh. Kara invites her for lunch at which Daisy meets Luke’s grown children, Bridget and Eric. They are living off their Dad and his money. He calls them on it at lunch and tells them he is cutting them off and out of his will. Tension is running high in the Longwell home.When Daisy arrives the next morning, it is to learn that Luke has been murdered. Her friend Kara is the chief suspect. Daisy has to help find the killer to prove her friend is innocent. The main suspects are: Kara; Bridget who is getting her funds cut off; Eric who is getting his funds cut off and is given an ultimatum about his girlfriend; Sasha Sanderson, the girlfriend who is dating Eric only for his money and whose mother was fired for stealing; Anna Antonelli, the maid who is having an affair with Luke; Matthew Madsen the gardener who flirts with Kara; and Quinn, the ex-wife who received nothing in the divorce due to a pre-nuptial agreement. That's because you can skim every other sentence, because half of them aren't needed. Written mostly in the 3rd person, the author can't decide (Or doesn't know how) to switch out of it so descriptions and dialogue can be really clunky at times. The story line isn't bad but the plot doesn't have much in the way of ups and downs. Daisy continually sticks her nose where it doesn't belong, with a great sense of entitlement, so a lot of sentences find her wondering why no one likes her. Uh, you're not likeable or a police officer? And then she can't understand why everything is always such a "hot mess". You will tire of that phrase. It's like the author writes for a while just the way she was taught, then feels the need to throw in one of her favorite slang terms. There aren't many of them, the same ones over and over. They're not funny, maybe the author thinks they make the writing more trendy. And for heaven's sake, the woman never eats a meal, just chocolate and pastries - because she "needs" them. Again, there for comedic relief but don't serve the purpose. She NEEDS a decent meal. A healthy one might solve her romantic issues because she's too "curvy".

Now, unfortunately, I will have to wait entirely too long for book number 3!!!Bobbie Monaco is an Independent spirit with a damaged soul. She is still recovering from the physical and psychological damage she suffered in an automobile accident caused by a drunken driver. After witnessing the carnage of the drunk’s 10-year-old headless daughter, it has thrown Bobbie it to a psychological tailspin.She no longer feels confident enough to drive a car. This will seriously hamper her performance as a newly hired private detective working under Goodwin (Goody) Hubbard – A retired Chicago cop who works for Bobbie’s sister’s law firm.Her latest case involves the death of an aspiring Television Reporter he has been killed by snakes used in ceremonies held by an evangelical religious group. Was it an accident or was it murder? And who is the killer? Is it really the reporter’s fiancée? A Wild Ride, But Some Glitches By Kindle Customer This book is filled with so many twists and secret identities - Rose has at least three - as well as what really happened to Amelia Earhart? - a few clues but the answer is a real shocker. And, who has the Kobe Jade Elephant and where is it?Mix in post WWII Singapore and the clash of several different cultures and religions, and prepare for a wild ride.A few quibbles: 1) I read the Kindle edition, and there were no visual breaks when the action shifted, as it frequently did, between different characters and scenes of action, and sometimes pages later I would realize that I was mixing up parts of the story.2) When the hero returns to his hotel room and realizes his wife has been kidnapped, it is only after he finds a small piece of jade left on the bed amid her cosmetics. As we know that the door was broken through to get to her, I would have expected the damaged door to be the first clue to that.3) The intelligence report on the Japanese undercover agent refers to his having killed a superior officer and gone AWOL during the war, but that was not the identity everyone knew him by at that point in the book as he had later rejoined the army under an assumed name, which is what he is using here and is the name investigated.Otherwise, a wild and fun, if a bit too violent, ride.

Take a CIA type, throw in a few Malay's, some Chinese, a few brit's, a crossdressing Japanese,a fighting Doctor, inebriated a lot of the time and a Jade elephant and you have quite a story. The actual plot has to do with finding the bones of Emelia Earhart but what they find is much more than they thought. Read it you will enjoy it, I certainly did.

The spy business is slow, so his boss sends he and his wife to Singapore when he hears a rumor that Amelia Earhart died in a prison camp and his job is to bring her remains home. Joseph's greatest attribute is his strength, but is he strong enough for what he encounters.

Who would want to slit the throat of a vagrant? Why? And why here?......."DI Alex Randall is called in when the body of a tramp is discovered in the ruins of a castle. There are no clues, no evidence pointing to the identity of the murderer. Even stranger, nor is there any pointing to the identity of the dead man. In fact he seems to have gone to a lot of trouble to hide his identity. Why?Neither Randall nor coroner Martha Gunn are happy to bury this unidentified man in an unmarked grave and are determined to give him the dignity of his own identity.I sat down to read a chapter or two...and several hours later found myself at 72% and none of the jobs I had intended doing, done.The writing is warm, descriptive and captivating. The characters are well rounded and eminently believable. The plot moves along at a steady pace, revealing little gems about the characters and sewing seeds for future exploration. There are brief forays into the characters personal lives, enough to make them more interesting, but not enough to eclipse the main storyline.Priscilla Masters is a new-to-me author, but she will not remain a one book read for me.Recalled to Death is #5 in a series, none of which I have read. This works perfectly well as a stand alone book, but I am intrigued enough to want to go back and read the series from the beginning.Thank you to NetGalley and Severn House Publishers for the gift of a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lesley This novel in the Martha Gunn series doesn't feature as much of Martha in her role of Coroner as it does Detective Inspector Alex Randall and his homicide team. The reason for that is the difficulty the police have in identifying a murder victim found in Moreton Corbet Castle in Shropshire. It is obvious from the beginning that this man was one of the homeless, but why was he in the castle in the first place and how did he get there from the area where the homeless usually gathered for the night? Police literally have no clue as to this man's identity so the long, laborious work begins to track down who he is. None of the most obvious methods of identification work so the team at Monkmoor police station in Shrewsbury find themselves piecing together the most minute clues while, by chance or otherwise, often overlooking chances to find clues which would send the mystery on the way to being solved.I had read one novel in this series previously so was very glad when I was given the opportunity to catch up with this cast of characters. The long, slow process of working on this case could have been an exercise in tedium, but that is definitely not the way this book reads. I really appreciated learning more about the life of DI Randall and was very surprised by what I learned. It did help me understand him more and might even be a set-up for a future novel in the series. This is a very good reading experience if you enjoy following right along with a team of investigators as they find the clues and put the pieces of the puzzle together. I definitely will be waiting for the next book in this series.I received an e-ARC of this novel through NetGalley.

Compelling Crime Novel By Big Bertha When the body of a homeless man is discovered at a local ruin, Detective Inspector Alex Randall can't help but wonder why anyone would want to inflict such a horrific attack on the unknown person. Initial enquiries about the victim also leave Coroner Martha Gunn perplexed and together the two of them are determined to uncover what it is that made the quietly spoken and polite man the target of such a brutal killerRealistic characters and well formed storyline kept me intrigued as the two central characters try to make sense of the killing, with no information regarding the victim and little information forthcoming from the homeless community they've got their work cut out.I love the way Priscilla Masters writes, the scene setting, the characters and the storyline all blend together well making an easy read interesting and compelling

When offered a job that pays three grand for one night's work, he thinks it will be the easiest money he’s ever made. Turns out that’s not the case. The investigation becomes more complex as the night goes on, and he needs Roxie and Stan’s help to figure out who the killer is. Also, Mugsy is on site this time, causing problems and adding to the confusion. The scene from his point of view is hysterical.

His girlfriend is getting ready to split and his cat is feisty. He is hired by the owner of a home box store to prove that his mistress isn't an axe murderer, before she is even charged. Oh, and he only has one night to do it. There are more things on heaven and earth Horatio, than you can fit in one home box store. Everbody has a secret, but what does it mean and what, if anything does it have to do with an employee getting "axed"? Leave it to fat cat to save the day. Confused? You won't be after reading Black In The Box.
