Sentences are incomplete which leads the reader to question what the author is trying to say. Some complete sentences have that same issue as well. Misused words, ie. threw instead of through. Far too many food references. Very frustrating to read. The characters aren't well drawn and there is too much 'tell', not 'show'. Too much narration. 'Show, don't tell' is one of the top rules of writing. The dialog is clunky. Not too much to like about this book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. a page turner By P. Blevins Daisy McDare and the Deadly Legal Affair is a mystery by K.M. Monroe. It is a very interesting book and kept my attention. However, the paragraphs are rather short and choppy which took away from the story. I felt on edge the entire time I was reading it. The characters could be developed a little more. It could be with so many characters it isn’t entirely possible to go too far into depth. . The plot is very simple; but finding the solution isn’t.Daisy McDare lives in Cozy Creek and loves it. Her family lives here as well as her best friend Samantha Johnson. Daisy is an interior decorator with a tendency to get into other people’s business when not wanted and has just taken a job for lawyer Max Case. Max is a sleazy lawyer who does have a reputation for winning his cases. However, he is interested in money and power and isn’t averse to gouging his clients and his work force. His condescending manner just invites people to hate him.The day she takes the job, Daisy goes to the company to see the place and to get her check in advance. She finds Max to be an overbearing man who tends to think he is better than anyone else. His arrogance does nothing to attract friends and does everything to attract enemies. He is a cheapskate; but agrees to pay Daisy’s fee up front. The next morning, Daisy comes to work only to find that Max has been murdered and she is among the suspects since she was there the day before. She manages to get herself released as a suspect when she produces her cell phone selfie as proof she was at home the night before. When the night maid, Angela Franklin, is arrested, she does not believe she did it. Her gut instinct, which never fails her, tells her Angela is innocent. When she tells the detective in charge, he tells her it is over. Daisy doesn’t believe him and continues her investigation. She quickly comes up with seven suspects. First is Brooke Case, Max’s wife who inherits his entire wealth instead of getting only half by divorce. Next is Peter Simpson, Max’s protégé who wants to be a partner but Max keeps putting him off. Chloe Donaldson, Max’s assistant and mistress, wants only to be married to Max and believes he will give Brooke a divorce. Amber Roberston , the receptionist, is having an affair with Peter and doesn’t want Max to know as even though he is having an inter-office affair, he would be angry knowing Peter and Amber are having one. The bookkeeper, Jackson Madsen is stressed from doing the job of three people while being paid for only one. He is also upset that Chloe broke up with him only to get involved with Max. Jackson only wants her back. Jennifer Webster is also overworked. She is the paralegal. She does all the work while Max takes all the credit. He doesn’t even pay her well. Finally there is Roland Smith, an irate client. Roland just wants to talk Max into lowering his bill so he doesn’t have to sell his new truck to take care of the bill. He is irate when he comes in to talk to Max. None of the suspects have an alibi for the time Max was killed. Can Daisy solve the mystery before they move Angela somewhere else? Can she keep her chocolate and sweet tooth under control while she ponders the case? Can she find the murderer without getting herself into trouble?

Daisy tackles an interior decorating job for a lawyer office, and when a member of that office is killed, she once again uses her intuitive ability to tell when someone is lying to help solve the case. Ms. Morgan once again fills the book with memorable characters and the list of suspects are a hoot. And then, there is the potential love interest, private investigator Gavin.I have two complaints about this book: first, the lawyers and law office are the cliche lawyer - that is, the bottom feeder, who is stingy with money. I am also not loving the trend of Daisy assuming that any woman who is thin is actively seeking to sleep her way to the top. In conjunction with this, is Daisy's opinion of women who marry rich, and then no longer work. However, these complaints are minor and do not overly take away from enjoyment of the book. This was another fun read and a nice second installment to the Daisy McDare books.

THE LOST GIRLS is book #2 in the #1 bestselling Suburban Murder series, which begins with THE FORGOTTEN GIRLS, book #1 (a free download)! The brutally beaten body of a young girl is discovered in a marsh in Jamesport, one of New York’s most elite suburbs. Police comb the area, while many speculate her murder might be connected to the abduction, six months earlier, of three girls from Jamesport. The FBI has evidence of an underage prostitution and trafficking ring which may be related. At the request of the FBI, Billy Dee, captain of the Ninth Precinct in the Bronx, head of its Sex Crimes Unit, sends two of his most seasoned detectives to Jamesport to conduct their own investigation: Bella de Franco and Jimmy “Mack” Menendez. They are sent north, back into the land of the beautiful. Between local politics, fractured families, a heroin epidemic and a dark secret that the wealthy town strives to keep hidden, the unspeakably dark and twisted reality lurking behind Jamesport life is uncovered. As they learn that everything is not what it seems in this wealthy suburb, Bella and Mack must race against the clock to save one last girl before she is sold across state lines, where she will vanish forever. Book #3 in the Suburban Murder series will be released soon!

By Sandy Dallabrida Having read the first book in this series and thinking that it was a good read and that the characters were well developed and complex, I was disappointed by the character development in this book. Without wanting to give any spoilers, I will say that the lack of development of the characters almost made it easy to see the end. There was also no real connection to the victims here so it was hard to get into the story or understand the odd reactions of the lead characters about the case because as a reader, I felt no connection or compassion for the victims. Also having read the first book in the series, it seems that the author has a formula to laying out her books which I thought was interesting in the first book but didn't really flow in this book. About a third of the way through both books, there is a chapter that is suddenly narrated from the killer's perspective (This is not a spoiler...it is just a change in narration and the killer's identity is not revealed in this chapter). In Book 1 it made sense and I felt that it added to the story and explained something about the killer. In Book 2 it just seemed forced and like something maybe the author should give up or only use when it really works with the flow of the story. All that being said, I was disappointed by this book and thought it was a step back from the first book in the series. I have not decided if I will read Book 3 yet when available. However, if you're looking for a fairly fast read in this genre, there are much worse choices out there.

15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Once again, awesome read! By DV The second book in the suburban Murder Series is just as good if not better than the first! Great mystery book, along with being an eye opener to some of darker things we wouldn't think about. Highly recommend for anyone who read the forgotten girls or anyone looking for a thriller!

15 of 16 people found the following review helpful. It's really just an ok read By sillygoose The plot was good and the writing was good enough. I just got tired of the constant comments regarding the wealthy main characters. So stereo typed it ruined the book for me. Therefore I found the detectives to be small minded and filled with preconceived notions. Unfortunately the author played into that mind set.

18 of 19 people found the following review helpful. This book was adorable. It's fast paced By Kindle Customer This book was adorable. It's fast paced, a healthy dose of suspense, and lots of laughs.I always enjoy when the victim is someone you love to hate. That's Scott, the overbearing boss, terrible husband, and father, pick the villain and it fits. I enjoy this type of victim because everyone's a suspect and you don't just guess the answer right away.I also really enjoyed Daisy she loves what she does but she gets herself embroiled in messes to help her friends. I also like her sweet tooth and am now craving cupcakes.I look forward to more by this author she seems to have found her niche. I received a PDF copy of this book in exchange for my free and honest review.

16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Daisy Mcdare is back and better than ever. By Danielle Eisner Daisy Mcdare is back. She has another design job, but this time she's designing a model home for a jerk real estate developer. When her boss once again turns up dead she's in the middle of another murder investigation. This time though she doesn't want to get involved, but when a family friend is taken in, she must dust off her inner investigator and find the real killer before they can strike again.Daisy has some pretty bad luck. Somehow her bosses keep ending up dead. Why do people keep hiring her? But seriously, with each new mystery and new case, Daisy gets more interesting. The writing and editing of the story get better as well.I like Gavin, I'm glad that he's getting more story and time in the book. He's a really sweet guy and I hope things continue to go well between him and Daisy and he continues to have a larger role in these stories. The mystery was a little slow getting started, but once it did I was hooked and couldn't wait to find out who the killer was. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a short cozy mystery.

16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. An enjoyable cozy mystery By Annette An enjoyable read from start to finish. Daisy is quick witted and very tenacious. Once she starts looking for the bad guy she won't let up until she finds them. This is K.M. Morgan's fourth book in this series. I've read each book in my leisure time and was glad I did. These books are very entertaining. In this particular book Daisy hunts for the killer of her latest boss who has hired her to decorate a model home. The accused is a friend of the family who helped her to get the decorating job. She has a knack of reading people's eyes to determine if they are telling the truth. She believes her friend is innocent and sets out to prove it.
