There are some serious timeline flaws in the Thaddeus Murfee series, but book 9 takes the cake. Time to get an editor with enough detail focus to due this series justice. And what is with Thaddeus' age? In book 1 he is 25, single. In book 3 he's 28 and Sarai is 2. In book 9 he's just turning 30 and Sarai is 6... And in book 9, Katy goes back to Chicago Sunday morning, but back in Orbit Sunday afternoon, but then back in Chicago. Then Thad hurts his back and goes to the doctor, but less than a day later a whole week of events has occurred... good story, but so poorly edited it interrupts the flow and enjoyment of the series.

The hero took a smaller part in book 8 , which was disappointing. I feel that book 9 was written too quickly. There were many punctuation and grammatical errors. An entire chapter was devoted to the autopsy of a murdered person. This may be of interest to medical students, but was way too much detail to maintain my interest. The author seems proud of his ability to churn out books quickly and generate income, but it may be better to slow down and get them done properly.

You will appreciated the reading and get to know the characters and how they interact with what happens to them when the lawyer comes into their lives and gets things done for them for the injustice they have received. You will enjoy your reading more by doing this. I love the author. You get to know the characters as a reader like you were actually involved in their lives.

About the Author

Annie Haynes was born in 1865, the daughter of an ironmonger. By the first decade of the twentieth century she lived in London and moved in literary and early feminist circles. Her first crime novel, The Bungalow Mystery, appeared in 1923, and another nine mysteries were published before her untimely death in 1929. Who Killed Charmian Karslake? appeared posthumously, and a further partially-finished work, The Crystal Beads Murder, was completed with the assistance of an unknown fellow writer, and published in 1930.

A bad hat comes to a bad end By Patto Everyone agrees that Robert Saunderson, a mystery man of questionable antecedents, is a bad hat, He is murdered just in time to save a lovely young woman from a forced marriage, a weak young man from financial ruin, and a married woman from disgrace. Lots of people had reason to want Saunderson dead! Yet Inspector Stoddard has a devil of a time getting evidence against anyone. The mysteries of Annie Haynes are a wonderful combination of nineteenth-century and nineteen-twenties manners and mores. Her heroes and heroines have high Victorian-style principles, but her women have shingled hair, and many of them smoke. Their skirts are short, and they wear long necklaces of crystal beards. Some of these beads figure as a clue. But every clue in this investigation turns out to be more confusing than helpful. This book takes place in racing society, and thanks to Hayes' own fondness for the racetrack, her narrative is peppered with colorful racing lingo.Annie Haynes only managed to finish half this book before she died, but an unknown literary friend wrote the second half, resolving the mystery just as Haynes had in mind. For me the additional chapters flowed seamlessly, and The Crystal Beads Murder is one of my favorite Annie Haynes mysteries. The characters are living and breathing personalities. Although they tend to reflect their social class, they are never stereotypes. Fans of Golden Age mysteries will be amused to find a passing tramp among in the cast of characters. The introduction is an asset to the book, well written and informative.

Excellent plotting and character development By Kindle Customer One has to know what comes next, how this situation, problem, character, innocent involvement, missing motive and lying witnesses can possibly be related and how the estimable gray matter of the investigators is boosted into certain knowledge to solve the crimes; and all this is excellently plotted to satisfy the avid reader to the end. Thanks! This author was, gratefully, way ahead of women crime mystery writers' time.
