“A phenomenal read.”—Sharon Sala, New York Times and USA Today bestselling authorIs it a flesh and blood killer—or restless spirits?According to Sophie the psychic, beautiful Edisto Beach becomes a hotbed of troublemaking spirits every August. But when a visitor dies mysteriously during a beach house party, former big-city detective Callie Morgan and Edisto Beach police chief Mike Seabrook hunt for motives and suspects among the living. With tourists filling the beaches and local business owners anxious to squelch rumors of a murderer on the loose, Callie will need all the help she can get—especially once the killer’s attention turns toward her.Edisto Jinx is a phenomenal read from beginning to end. The psychological twists are as intriguing as the vivid imagery of Ms. Clark's writing. From characters with just the right amount of flaws to make them realistic, to the eerie peek into a madman's mind, it is a gem of a story I didn't want to end.—Sharon Sala, author of Cold Hearts, book two of the Secrets and Lies trilogy. Edisto Jinx did not disappoint. In Callie Morgan, Clark has fashioned a main character it is taking me some time to care about. I'm not sure what it is that makes this so. The writing is brisk, crisp, clear, entertaining. The mechanics are all there, the storyline an interesting one, the supporting characters an interesting lot. I've just had trouble warming to Callie herself. Still, that did not take away from my enjoyment of the book.Edisto Island is a cool setting for this series, of which Edisto Jinx is the second installment. The book centers on weird deaths which take place each August, deaths it takes former detective Morgan to tie together. I enjoy seeing my main characters putting two and two together and coming up with four when most everybody else has arrived at three, or five. Of course we know Callie will solve the mysteries in the end, but it's great fun watching her do so.I very much enjoy Callie's interactions with her teenage son. Well, perhaps enjoy isn't the best word. Perhaps best to say that their clashes ring true and hit close to home, and that I think that will be the case for many readers.Sophie, Callie's next door neighbor and friend, is having a hard time with the August jinx of deaths, since it always gets the spirits in her house aroused, thus giving her many sleepless nights. We soon begin to wonder if Sophie has really "lost it" this time, and if she will survive the month. We certainly are pulling for her, because she's a fun, likeable character. As is usually the case with Clark's books, there's soon a sizeable cast of well-developed supporting characters present -- just enough, not so many that one can't keep them separated from each other. This is one of Clark's greatest strengths, her ability to bring her entire cast to life.Another major strength is Clark's own background in law enforcement, specifically as a federal investigator. Her writing is never over the top or unbelievable, nor filled with excessive derring do that would make me question her credibility. In other words, she never takes too much poetic license when she writes, but just enough to make the story stronger and faster moving. I like that about C. Hope Clark. She knows when to take a risk by taking the storyline a bit farther afield, but she always brings it back into the believable, and I never even consider closing the book before The End.Clark succeeded in giving me the kind of experience I always hope for when reading a book for the first time: I soon felt as if I were a summer visitor to Edisto Island myself. I do so love getting lost in a good book. So now I'm (impatiently) waiting for book number three.

The residence of Edisto Beach welcomed me into the dilemma surrounding the death of Brea Jamison. Callie Morgan, Ex Boston Detective, investigative instincts kick in and stir up more than the residence of this tiny island want to deal with. A serial killer is on the loose but no one believes Callie.August is a busy tourist season on Edisto Island, add a few spirts tormenting Callie’s neighbor Sophia and some dirty laundry from other neighbors past and the story just keeps getting better.I appreciated the broken hero that is Callie Morgan. I watched her begin to heal amidst the drama in the first book in the series Murder on Edisto. Now a few months later Callie continues to struggle, grow and find herself again. C. Hope Clark settings are so believable even though I have no idea what a Palmetto looks like. I felt the heat and the sea breezes. I walked with Callie in the blackness of the moonless night at the climax as she confronts the villain. That was a definite-don’t anyone interrupt me moment.Rich settings, interesting characters and unexpected twists. The use of tweeter was both surprising and brilliant. I felt Callie’s story could end here and I would be content. But then again surely there are more secrets to unfold on Edisto Beach. Looking forward to more books by Hope.

Hope's Clark second book in the series featuring Edisto Beach, SC. This time Callie is investigating mysterious deaths that occur every August known by locals as the "Edisto Jinx". But is there really a jinx or are these accidental deaths just that - accidents? Despite being warned to leave it well alone, Callie begins investigating while someone named MyOutake eerily reports her every move on social media. Can Callie solve the mystery of the jinx and identify MyOutake before someone else is killed? Danger lurks just outside the shadows and keeps you glued to the book as you're pulled deeper into the jinx mystery. I dare you to try to figure out who the suspect is. This book is so brilliantly written that you'll be guessing until the book is almost finished. Then you'll be racing against the clock with Callie as she tries to bring down MyOutake and save one more life.
