It mad me laugh and cry with their everyday dealings with a loved ones struggle to hold on. It gives me hope and joy of the days ahead with my dad. The story was simply beautiful and touching.

This book turned out to be a diamond in the rough as far as books go. I originally planned to read this book because my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. I was little then but I remembered she was a hand full at times to deal with and just wished I could have done more.The book opens with some background on the effects of Alzheimer's disease and some of the thing that someone suffering will go through.As the book moves forward we are introduced to Daisy. I love the way she is introduced in several present day to flashbacks, giving a full understanding on the authors prospective of his mother's life. This way we get to see both sides of how the disease has affected her and her family.This a story that is told in such a way that you start feeling that you are a part of it even though you are just reading along. The author has done an amazing job that feels as though complete immersion in this story.Having to deal with an elderly parent is one thing but having to deal with a parent that doesn't know who you are at any given time is pure hell. I commend the author for telling this story as he did.This book is one of the most inspirational yet heart wrenching tales ever told and I'm so glad that I read it.

Kraft At the last minute, Kate Sharp is asked by her boss to attend a Regency themed English house party in place of a researcher. Being a lover of all things Jane Austen, she is happy to go. The invitation also comes at the same time her friend Beatrice, who is the hostess of the house party, asks to meet with her concerning a series of poison pen "letters" she and her husband has been receiving on social media sites.Shortly after arriving to the party, one of the guests is found murdered in a locked bedroom next to Kate's. When evidence turns up, Kate soon finds herself the prime suspect. Not only must she look into Beatrice's problem, now with evidence pointing to her, Kate must investigate the murder herself if she doesn't want to find herself behind bars. This book has a cast of colorful characters, and a great plotline. I thought the clues were well placed in the book and it read at a good pace; and as usual with Sara Rosett's books, it was well written. I recommend this to all cozy mystery lovers.**Please note: I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for a honest review.

By Amazon Customer I have to acknowledge I am not a Jane Austen fan; therefore, I have not read any of the Murder on Location series. I am a big fan of Sara Rosett’s books. When I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review, I jumped in with both feet. Once I began, I did not want to put Death in a Stately Home down. At first, I must admit that I had a hard time keeping all the characters straight, but I got them sorted out room by room. Sara is very good at describing the setting and you feel as if you are right there. Having read the third book, I want to go to the beginning and see how the characters have developed and to learn more about Nether Woodsmoor. I was hesitant to read about a Jane Austen aficionado and did not know how she would fit into my favorite Rosett cozy mystery characters. However, I like Kate Sharp, her boyfriend Alex and his little sister.The story line is engaging. Location scout, Kate Sharp, has a sharp eye and is invited at the last minute to be a guest at a Regency-themed English house party. The owner asks her to help investigate what is going on at Parkview Hall. She has more than she bargained for when she becomes the main suspect for murder. Sara Rosett keeps you wondering whodunit. The author has a way of developing interesting puzzles to solve with fun characters in beautiful settings. I am always looking forward to the next Zoe Hunter journey and Ellie Avery escapade. Having fallen in love with Sara's Ellie series, I am now an avid Kate fan too!When Kate is accused of murder in this latest book, my heart skipped a beat! I always have a hard time when my favorite main characters are accused of the crime! Sara keeps the reader on the edge of their seat as she takes you on this British who dun it!Sara has a way of developing characters so you feel like they are someone you personally know. Her scenery descriptions make me want to visit the places in her books! Buy a copy & you won't be disappointed!

I did not know what was going on at all, as the first few chapters were told from different characters' points of view. It was rather intriguing. Then, bit by bit, the story came together magically, and everything got tied up wonderfully in the end. The way Ashley Fontainne weaved it all together was one of the things I really enjoyed about the story. The ending was rather satisfying. It is very difficult to say much about the content itself because it could easily spoil the plot. It all begins with a woman in a coma. She can hear people talking.Basically, Whispered Pain is a very twisted story about sweet revenge that is full of devious characters and convoluted turns. There is deception, greed, betrayal and several deaths. It was quite amazing how much was put into 3 hours of listening. It makes you think about trust and family ties.The narration by Andrea Emmes was very good. She used a variety of voices and had excellent pacing and intonation. She was very pleasant to listen to. There were no issues with the production quality.Whispered Pain is definitely worthwhile listening to if you are looking for a short, suspenseful and very original story. An Entertaining But Incompletely Realized Page-Turner With Sharp Twists and a Strong Vocal Performance By Ascension33 Whispered Pain is a thriller in the vein of "Gone Girl" in which there is clearly a battle between the sexes going on, but for much of the duration of the story, the reader is not sure who is attempting to ensnare who. The author successfully uses first person point of view to convey the point of view of multiple characters, most successfully in the case of the protagonist, Angie, who turns out to be both resourceful and sympathetic in equal measures. However, I believe the author was making a very important point about Angie's affinity for a certain type of man, and how that reflected her family upbringing, in a manner that if the author developed the story a bit more thoroughly, the story would have unfolded with bigger payoffs.What we get instead is a very streamlined, efficient page-turner that the reader can easily enjoy in one sitting, even if the meal feels more like a tasty snack instead of a full course meal. The story is so streamlined, that the primary criticism of the experience of listening or reading the book is that it is not developed enough at this point to reach its full potential, and the author should have expanded the story to allow the story to unfold more naturally.Instead of having scenes of significant exposition be provided through dialogue, the story could have instead revealed its twists and turns more gradually and fluidly. The result at times is that the reader wishes certain characters would stop talking quite so much, and the author should have let the situations show what is going on at times when the characters are instead telling us what is happening or what happened in the past.All the same, it is far better to be brief and tell the high points of an interesting yarn as opposed to wearing out one's welcome. So, other than the patches when I wished the characters would be a bit less chatty, the story did get right to the point, and the chapters do fly by.The one other detriment to my experience was the fact that the male characters who are most prominent in the story are truly reprehensible examples of that sex, and the author's failure to explore the psychological and/or spiritual/karmic aspect of how Angie's father and husband resemble one another in a very key manner almost universalizes their common defects. In that regard, the book does leave a bit of a bad taste in the mouth of a male reader, who does not appear to be the desired audience for this book in that respect.On the other hand, the fact that the book does illustrate a very serious aspect of domestic abuse upon which the author does pull back the curtain does give the book an important social purpose in enlightening readers about a very disturbing social practice which does exist within the world of abuse. On balance, I would still recommend reading the story for that enlightened perspective, even if I personally had some qualms about the lack of dexterity at refining the message to where it would be a bit more palatable for male readers.My experience of the story was by way of listening to the audiobook, and the narrator, Andrea Emmes, demonstrated great professionalism in voicing the characters and expressing their points of view, no matter how distasteful those characters' actions and thoughts might be. Especially in the case of Angie, Ms. Emmes' voice and that of the author were entirely in sync, and theirs is a successful collaboration.So in summation, the audiobook was very intriguing and at times enjoyable, well performed by its narrator, and very much worth a listen, even if the final result makes one hope the author will someday revisit the material and flesh it out in more detail for the fuller satisfaction of the audience.

Once again, this author does not disappoint. From the tantalizing beginning, all the way through to the pulse-pounding end, you will be on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next. Ashley is famous for her convoluted plot twists and turns and this novella is full of them. Her devious characters will keep you guessing and each surprise will be something you never saw coming. "Whispered Pain" is haunting and mesmerizing and filled with characters and atmospheric settings that will whisper in your mind and memory long after the last page is turned.

The author's personal memoir of his years growing up in and around Fernandina on Amelia Island, Florida, from 1965-1971. The book begins when his family moves to town the summer before he begins 7th grade and ends when he graduates from high school in 1971. It was a time of great transitions with the Vietnam War raging, schools being integrated, and drugs becoming pervasive. And it was the golden age of muscle cars, brought to the beach by boys from all over Georgia and Florida to show them off on the weekends. Fernandina was a sleepy little beach town in those days, but there was a lot going on. The author tries to catch the "feel" of the time and place so the book is not a straightforward narrative. He recounts his experiences, many funny, some sad, and along the way describes the people and places of the island in an impressionistic style. When you finish reading of "Fernandina-Growing Up On Amelia Island", you will feel like you stepped back in time. And you will feel the better for it.

Gordon does a wonderful job of transporting us back in time to a truly special place. He does so in a manner that will keep a smile on your face throughout and make you laugh out loud at times. The recounting of his time in the oak tree over the marsh is a good example of this. He leads you in with a few nostalgic memories and then whops you upside the head with the hilarity of the tree story. It was one of those, "Honey, you have got to come read this" moments. I had the good fortune of moving to Fernandina in 1977 when I was in the 10th Grade and went to school with Gordon's brothers. I played football with his brother, and my friend, Robert and was a lifeguard on the beach throughout college. So I can relate to many of the stories in the book. I definitely remember "Georgia Boy" from the days on the beach. However, even if you didn't grow up in Fernandina and don't know the places described in the book, you will still enjoy it, because the author is a great story teller with a wry sense of humor. If he decides to write a sequel about the escapades at the Hart, Hart, Hart house in Tallahassee, I will be sure to read it.

Skinner As a new resident to the island, the book has sparked an interest in myself to learn more about the history of our new "home-town". If you knew the "Fernandina-Of-Old", you undoubtedly know that Fernandina is not the same as it used to be. As true as that statement is, Fernandina is still equally as special place when compared to other locations. The author has done a great job at describing events that he experienced as a youth in the area. I find myself going around locations described in the book just to see what is there now and to imagine events that once happened there. To the author, thanks for the glimpse into the Fernandina-Of-Old, and I'm waiting for your book on the subject of Fishing Amelia Island. :)

We have a front row seat to watch as the scales of adolescence fall from the eyes of messrs. Dickens and Twain. Nuggets of humor and glimmers of wisdom keep the pages turning. Where else could one read that the Junior High football team would not be noticed even if they had been tossing pick axes at cadavers. And who hasn't fronted money for a case of beer (or some other contraband) and ended up with nothing more than a valuable lesson?This was a thoroughly entertaining read that makes the Fernandina of yesteryear come alive once again- even if only momentarily.

His books take place in Wales, the North has DI Drake and the South has DI Marco. I have been a fan of DI Drake up to this point because of his peculiar behaviors and environment, but DI Marco won me over with this book.Marco is based in Cardiff, and the countryside becomes a part of the storyline. This is a mystery/thriller that hinges on The Bank ofWales, nefarious deeds and betrayals. But it begins with a spectacular death of a well dressed businessman found in an Aston Martin with a sign around his neck. The businessman turns out to be a banker with a very disgruntled and disjointed family. DI Marco is working with a new Sargent. Lydia is fastidious and particular, eats healthy food and as it turns out is an excellent Sargeant. She and Marco work well together. With the help of others on their team, they sift through every clue, and there are many. Marco's son becomes an important part of his life, and family is once again at the fore. Even though Marco is single and enjoys this life, lonely as it is, he realizes family comes first. As the story unfolds, the case becomes fraught with tension as people are put in jeopardy, and Marco and his team must solve this case. The ending is surprising, I thought many times that I had the answer, but alas.Stephen Puleston, has become one of my favorite authors. The characters in his books all have explicit personalities that are more than interesting. After a bit, they start to feel like part of the family. Most of them have issues like we all do, and we can identify with them. The mystery/police procedurals are all very different, and a bit unusual. And, to see Wales from a countryman's view is the best way to visit a country. Once you start reading, it is very difficult to put the book down.Recommended. prIs rob 10-09-15

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. great new police procedural By beesting I received an advanced copy of this book and greatly enjoyed reading it. It reminds me of a cross between P.D. James and John Sandford. If you read either author, you will appreciate this offering.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.This is the second book in Detective Marco series and the style is the same, which is a very long and detailed police procedural investigation of a multiple murder case. Occasionally we get some glimpses into the personal life of the main character. The book seemed to last forever with all the endless details of everyday police investigating work. I thought some details, like the exact routs their cars took, how many cigarettes were smoked, how many cups of coffee were drunk were just too much to keep my interest, but I stuck with the book because I wanted to know who the killer was. So, I guess, the fact that the book is not easy to predict is a good aspect of the plot.

About the Author Steven Smith was born February 21, 1969 in West Palm Beach to a life that defined his purpose. He wasn’t raised in the best home but it was where he was supposed to be to know God’s purpose for his life. Like many kids today Steven was raised in a turbulent home. He dealt with emotional, mental and physical abuse at the hands of his “Father". Although Steven’s natural father was in his life, it wasn’t the way he needed him to be. While being physically abusive to his mother and bringing other women into their home, Steven’s father was emotionally and mentally abusive to him even calling him a faggot. In search of a Father Figure, Steven found that love at the hands at the hands of a family member that was molesting him. The abuse engulfed Steven’s primary years. The molester became his “Father”. Although Steven knew what was happening was wrong it gave him the security his father could not at the time. Steven saw himself becoming a carbon copy of his father. Throughout middle and high school he acted out. Not because he was a bad ass child but because he was crying out for the attention he craved and asking for help but to no avail because no one took the time to listen. Steven clung to his mother while wanting his father to be the one to save him from the instability he helped create. His mother couldn’t cling back due to the hurt and pain she was suffering but she always encouraged him to be a better man.Steven continued to seek out men that loved him and could fill that void although each time it was temporary. Countless other men came into Steven’s life and became yet again his “father” and eventually his lover. Eventually he grew up and moved away but his problems followed. He was looking for love until he stopped and realized he had all the love he needed the entire time. He had the love of GOD! God showed him he was so much more than that little boy who was abused and acting out. God heard his cry and showed him his true talents. His cry became a song, his run became a dance, his stomping while acting out became a tune and the love for style and fashion became the renowned Steven Smith! God let Steven know that he could sing, dance, play music put a style together like no other. Steven continues to use his experiences and strength to encourage and uplift those that are hurting and downtrodden. Steven has a personality that energizes all that come in contact with him.

We have no idea what a person with a big smile such as Steve have gone through. His transparency in this book is an awesome page turner. He has allowed the world to know every gory detail of his being deceived on what love is. Throughout Steven's life he looked for that deceptive love in all the wrong people and places. Steven loved and wanted to be loved but that spirit of deception kept drawing him and confusing him. In spite of all Steven heard two voices that were calling for him, his mom and God.
