"Top of the line thriller writing...You better call in sick, because you're not going anywhere until you finish reading it. Oh, and you might want to lock the door, too. Just to be safe." --#1 bestselling author Jeffery Deaver"A fast-paced, razor-sharp thriller that is impossible to put down. Jennifer Hillier is a stunningly-talented author and Wonderland is her best yet." -- Mark Edwards, Amazon #1 bestselling author of Follow You Home "This is not only Jennifer Hillier's best novel yet, it's one of the stronger novels I've read in 2015 . . . Wonderland is a labyrinth that'll both awe you by its complexity and gradually freak you out of your mind." -- Dead End Follies"One fast-action heart-pounding intense page-turner." -- JDC MustReadBooks Fans of Chelsea Cain and Lisa Gardner will devour this edgy thriller about the gruesome secrets hidden beneath a small-town amusement park. From the author of Creep, Freak, and The Butcher, Jennifer Hillier's "fine knack for creating hideous killers" (Booklist) is vividly on display.Welcome to Wonderland. By day, it's a magical place boasting a certain retro charm. Excited children, hands sticky with cotton candy, run frenetically from the Giant Octopus ride to the Spinning Sombrero, while the tinkling carnival music of the giant Wonder Wheel--the oldest Ferris wheel in the Pacific Northwest--fills the air. But before daybreak, an eerie feeling descends. Maybe it's the Clown Museum, home to creepy wax replicas of movie stars and a massive collection of antique porcelain dolls. Or maybe it's the terrifyingly real House of Horrors. Or...maybe it's the dead, decaying body left in the midway for all the Wonder Workers to see. Vanessa Castro's first day as deputy police chief of Seaside, Washington, is off to a bang. The unidentifiable homeless man rotting inside the tiny town's main tourist attraction is strange enough, but now a teenage employee--whose defiant picture at the top of the Wonder Wheel went viral that same morning--is missing. As the clues in those seemingly disparate crimes lead her down a mysterious shared path of missing persons that goes back decades, she suspects the seedy rumors surrounding the amusement park's dark history might just be true. She moved to Seaside to escape her own scandalous past, but has she brought her family to the center of an insidious killer's twisted game? Acclaimed author Jennifer Hillier's bone-chilling thriller is masterful and fast-paced, hurtling toward a shocking, bloody conclusion.

Review PRAISE FOR WONDERLAND “A fast-paced, razor-sharp thriller that is impossible to put down. Jennifer Hillier is a stunningly talented author and Wonderland is her best yet.” (Mark Edwards, bestselling author of Follow You Home ) PRAISE FOR JENNIFER HILLIER'S GRIPPING THRILLERS “Hillier's third thriller fairly shudders with tension. [She] sends her reader into a labyrinth of creepy twists and grotesque turns…The secrets of the past refuse to keep quiet in this disquieting, taut thriller.” (Kirkus )  “As she ably proved in her debut (Creep, 2011), [Hillier] has a fine knack for creating hideous killers. This time she turns the formula whodunit on its head… A tense, suspenseful, thoroughly creepy thriller.” (Booklist ) "Once I got started I couldn’t stop reading, and I confess to having sweaty palms a few times. A thrill ride that will have your attention from start to finish! This one is 4.5 stars." Oh, and you might want to lock the door, too. Just to be safe." I immensely enjoyed CREEPand FREAK and had high hopes for this one. I was not disappointed.Wonderland is a huge amusement park set in a small Washington town. The park isthe big tourist trap which keeps the city alive. Wonderland comes complete withThe Clown Museum, The Doll House, and House of Horrors ... and today it comeswith a decaying body left in the midway.Vanessa Castro 's first day as Deputy Police Chief starts off with a bang. Thebody is eventually identified as a young man who worked at Wonderland, butdisappeared several years earlier. As her investigation progresses she finds there have been many young men whohave disappeared over the years. They all were summer workers, they were all 18years old, they were all tall and blondeThere are all sorts of strange/weird people who make great persons of interest. There's a secretive janitor who follows Vanessa's daughter around while she'sworking at Wonderland. There's the CEO ... a female Don Juan who has sleptwith all the missing boys. Oz is the Vice President, looking to make a newstart ... with Vanessa. All the characters come to life under the pen of Ms. Hillier. Descriptions ofWonderland were so vivid, I did a search to see if it was real. Plot is wellwritten ... and the killer came as a surprise. There were several twists andturns that led me down the wrong path... as I'm sure the author intended. And Ireally liked the cover ... it gave my goosebumps goosebumpsIf you like murder mysteries, serial killers, you will like all of JenniferHillier's books. 4.5 STARSMy thanks to NetGalley / Gallery, Threshold, Pocket Books / Pocket Star for anadvanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed Creep and Freak quite a bit, but wasn't as thrilled with The Butcher. Once I find an author I enjoy I'm loyal and read all they write unless they have several disappointing reads in a row. I am SO glad I got this and didn't let it pass by. If you enjoyed her first 2 novels, this is for you. Creepy clowns, sex, lies, murder and all kinds of craziness... I hope she continues to write and keep my crazy brain entertained.

We start off the story with one of the Wonder Workers, an 18 year old disgruntled employee, sneaking into the park before it opens and free climbing the 150 foot Wonder Wheel ride to take a selfie and post it to the internet. While he’s up there someone shows up at the bottom of the Wonder Wheel and turns the ride on.Next we meet the new Deputy Chief of the Seaside PD, Vanessa Castro. She’s crawling out of the bed of her latest one night stand to head into her first day at the police department. When she arrives she learns that a body has been found at the park below the Wonder Wheel. The thing is the body has been dead a while and our selfie taking Wonder Wheel climber has disappeared. This book just kind of sucked me in and I didn’t want to put it down. I still don’t know if it was because of the thriller/mystery aspect of the story and wondering just who our killer is or the secrets and lies that unfold throughout the story. Seaside should be a charming little town but it’s residents have so many skeletons in their closets I’m surprised it’s not a nudist town as they wouldn’t have room for a wardrobe in there. The book changes the point of view between the various characters in the story and I thought this was a wonderful way to add to the layers and depth. We get to know exactly what has gone on from all angles as the list of suspects grows and grows.Absolutely adored Ava’s character and her love of all things creepy. Sure she’s a rebellious teen but she reminded me of myself in her wanting to work in the Clown Museum and scare people. I spent 5 years getting my head chopped off every October at a haunted hayride so when we got to Ava working the Clown museum I was just smiling away waiting for the scares.Vanessa is tough as nails as a detective and determined to not drink the Wonderland Kool-Aid but she herself has her own shady past too. Hard to find someone in the story without something questionable going on which just intrigued me just as much as finding out the killer.I’d highly recommend this to any fan of a much darker, creepy mystery/thriller and will definitely be looking into more of Jennifer Hillier’s work in the future.I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
