Locum Tenens is a fictional suspense based on contemporary problems with American Medicine. Dr. Ian MacIntyre is a locum tenens physician who takes an assignment with River City Health System (RCHS), an HMO. He quickly falls into a never ending trail of secrets, shady alliances and espionage. Ian learns that there is more to his young daughter’s recent tragic death than he realized, and the answers might lie in RCHS’s acquired records. The incompetence and greed of the HMO depicted in this fictional account are loosely based on the author's real experiences as a practicing physician. The author is adamantly in favor of a single-payer system and finds medicine for profit to be antithetical to all of the moral reasons to practice medicine or to have a medical system in place. Ian stumbles quickly into HMO practices that are not only unethical but illegal. He struggles between just leaving or fighting to expose them while fighting his own emotional demons of his daughters tragic death Clues at the HMO is what keeps Ian working there, looking for answers Locum Tenens was written by a medical doctor and based largely on his medical and personal experiences. It is a criticism of modern american medicine, and a tale of emotional turmoil.

Dr. Ian MacIntyre and his gang of computer geeks, bikers, an FBI agent as well as a sympathetic nurse bring down the corrupt River City HMO. In the process, MacIntyre is able to redeem the past and bring some closure to the death of his daughter.
