In M.H. Sargent’s eighth action-packed thriller, the MP-5 team has been tipped off about an impending Ghost Gathering – the code words for an unknown terrorist group moving around undetected within the United States (ghost) while planning a large scale attack that will kill thousands assembled in one place (gathering). Knowing that the upcoming ambush is ISIS-directed, the team seeks out the source of the tip – an abbot at a Christian monastery in Northern Iraq. However, before they can question the abbot, he is killed. They soon find there is only one person that can help unravel the mystery of the impending attack – a six-year-old orphaned boy. Taking him under their wing, they must go into the lion’s den near Mosul – a no-man’s-land where the ISIS butchers operate with impunity. Little do they know that the boy was hidden at the monastery for a very good reason. And that ISIS will do anything to get their hands on him.

For the events describe in this very well written thriller can occur at any moment somewhere within the United States. A lot of research went into the writing of this novel, making it all the more believable. I could not put the book down; it is definitely of the same expert caliber as a Brad Thor thriller. M.H. Sargent's characters are well developed, the action is so believable that you feel you are a bystander viewing the action as it occurs, and the story line centers on an issue we have been dealing with since the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. M. H. Sargent has become one of my very favorite authors, and he cannot get those thrillers of his on the store shelves fast enough for me!!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. another great story By pattipalooza i have read and loved all of mh sargent's books, and this one didn't disappoint! at times, i had some trouble keeping all the characters straight in the beginning, but the overall story line was terrific! great job and congratulations on another great book.

In fact, I've read most everything he has written and have reviewed those I've read.I consider myself to be an ardent fan of Gonz and company, known as MP-5.I say, "all in all" it was good, because there were some awkward parts to this read. To begin with, the main story line had several sub plots unfolding throughout. As each sub plot's chapter unfolded to a rising action, the chapter ended in an anti-climax. The next chapter started with its own sub plot and rising action, ending again in an another anti-climax. Chapter after chapter went on this way. It left me juggling in my mind trying to recall where previous sub plots had left off.Add to this, a cast of antagonists from the Middle East, whose names, other than the MP-5 group, I found difficult to remember as to who they were and what role each played in the overall story line.I don't re-tell story lines in my reviews, but suffice it to say, once I had tied all the sub plots together and could recall the name and role each antagonist played, the story flowed along wonderfully! The ending was terrific. That's all I will say about that. I must say, however, that in my view I considered one of the epilogues a bit maudlin. What really impressed me throughout was the attention to detail to which Mr. Sargent went to explain the interaction among the various indigenous peoples along with the geography they inhabited. It was virtually a history lesson of the cauldron we call the Middle East and the different ethnic groups who live there. There's no question. This was a most enjoyable read by an author who has kept me involved with all of his books to date. I definitely recommend this book.

A Vault Of Grave Secrets By Alima Livzletlivz On Her Father's Grave starts off with a bang, leading the series Rogue River" co-written by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh. Two of the most prolific thriller writers of today, Rogue River Series, is set in the small town of Solitude, OR.Stevie Taylor returns to her hometown after her father, the town's Police Chief passes away due to a heart attack. Having survived some gruesome crimes in LAPD as a cop, Stevie wants nothing more than to stay away from the past pain and reconnect with her roots as a patrol office in her hometown. Her return coincides with the death of a teenager under suspicious circumstances, and with the meeting of Zane Duncan, the new Chief of Police. In a town where everyone knows everyone, and everyone keeps everyone in sight, Stevie and Zane have to team up to get to the bottom of these death as there seem to be more bodies turning up. The flare of desire and chemistry that ignites between Stevie and Zane is a sure surprise for both, but something that they both like to take it further.I always love the way Kendra etches her characters. She gives them so many layers of depth and individuality; it's like peeling an onion, as you get to know their strengths and weaknesses, one layer a time. Kendra does a brilliant job of keeping the narration open and pure, with feelings and emotions decked out, with a hint of secrets that may divide the small town, and keeping the essence of a small town's thinking and beliefs. The aura of anticipation as to what's going to happen next or the blossoming relationship between Stevie and Zane, only adds more excitement to the story. On Her Father's Grave keeps you glued until the last page. These are short novellas of four in the series, with Kendra working one end of an angle featuring Stevie and Zane, and Melinda caricaturing Carly and Seth from the other end, both teams with one single goal to get to the evil behind the killings by an unidentified drug. The icing on the cake and this shows the prowess of a seasoned writer, is how she manages not to leave it as a cliffhanger, yet she makes us yearn and moan for more. The desire to get to the next book is so strong, that no reader will be able to resist getting to the next three books....not a chance! Can't wait to read how Melinda Leigh's given life to the characters of Carly Taylor and Seth Harding in the second book, "Gone To Her Grave".Received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review

Melinda Leigh will write the next one, and so on. It’s an interesting concept, and it will be fun to see how it all plays out. I think Ms. Elliot has a winner with this mystery/romance.Stevie Taylor has just moved back to her hometown of Solitude, after a ten year absence. Her father, the police chief, has just died, so she decides to stay, and gets hired by the police department. Since she was a LA based police officer, she has the experience to do so. She has a big family that lives there, and she misses them. The night before her first day, she is called to the death scene of a teenage boy. New police chief, Zane, is pretty much attracted to her immediately. This was a short read, as usual with any novella, but I didn’t think it suffered, due to it’s length. Stevie was pretty fully realized by the author, as a good cop, one that went through some bad experiences in LA. Not only is she a good cop, but she is also just a good, caring person, one that is grieving for her father. Zane is a smart, and honorable man, one that knows a good thing(Stevie)when he sees one. But he is her boss, so…The mystery was well realized, and of course written. Could it have been more intricate? Of course, but since it was a novella, that goes with the territory. How does a healthy teenage boy die without a mark on him, in sight of most of his friends? Drugs? Or was he murdered? That’s just one of the questions here. Another one would be, why is everyone interested in her father’s journals? What’s been going on in this small town since she’s been away?I enjoyed this short read, and found it very easily read, and I got pulled into the story just like I would have with a regular sized novel. There’s still more mystery to be had here, so I am looking forward to reading the rest in this series. I recommend this to probably ages 15 plus, no sexual situations, but there is violence.(PureTextuality.com)

When Stevie Taylor's father, Solitude Police Chief Bill Taylor, died unexpectedly of a heart attack, things began to change in her world. Ten plus years of working as a cop in Los Angeles had left her bitter and disillusioned, and coming home again to fill the empty place in the police department's roster as well as filling the empty space at the family table seemed to be the right thing to do.So with little or no hesitation, ten days after Big Bill's death and five days after giving notice, Stevie was back in Solitude in her own place. She'd missed her whole family while she'd been away and was glad to be able to return and become a part of their lives again. But like the move to L.A. had changed Stevie, ten years plus had also changed her family and friends back in Solitude. Her older brother James, the town's mayor, is apparently having trouble in his marriage that he's desperately trying to downplay. Her sister and niece have settled close to the family home; and her youngest brother Bruce is still underfoot at the family house--which she's grateful for right now but sometimes worries about. Her old boyfriend Eric is divorced and still living in Solitude - and seems anxious to get reacquainted. But Stevie isn't sure that she feels the same.Chief of Police Roy Krueger had called Stevie out to the scene of a suspicious death the night before she was to start working, so she's surprised when she gets to the P.D. the next day and he's nowhere to be found. Surprisingly, Roy had quit and disappeared. To make matters worse--Roy had replaced himself with a stranger--Zane Duncan. She meets Zane, and after receiving little to no explanation for Roy's absence, fills him in on the night before.Hunter Brandt was a local teenager who'd supposedly died of natural causes --heart failure, possibly--but he'd been behaving strangely right before his death. While it's determined that Hunter's blood alcohol level was low, they also find out that there was a suspicious substance in his system that hasn't been identified. Is there a new drug being peddled in town? The kids close to Hunter say they know nothing, but their behavior tells a different story. His friend Peter described his behavior as odd and makes it sound like he was hallucinating before he collapsed. His girlfriend Grace Ellis, in particular, seems like she's hiding something. Later, after being pressed, she describes an older man she saw around Hunter and his friends but can't describe him well enough for a match. Was someone out at the lake that night selling drugs? While working the case, Stevie begins to become familiar with all the local players and becomes especially suspicious of one man in particular, Ted Warner. When another, similar death occurs, Stevie and new police chief Zane start moving in closer to their target.I really enjoyed the building of suspense and character relationships in this new series. While this first novel was short and ended almost too soon, it had more than enough description and emotional connection between the characters to draw me in and keep me invested in reading more about them. The arc for this mystery was solved in this book, but there are several overarching threads that I can see reaching into the second, third, and possibly fourth and last book. Some are pure mystery and some are emotional connections that I'd like to see--romantic and familial. Stevie has moved back to town but is only starting to see the changes in her family as they start to reveal themselves, one layer at a time. I think that there is a lot more going on in Solitude than at first meets the eye; and, I'm very interested in seeing what comes next, as well as seeing how well the second author's style meshes and complements the first author's style. Can't wait!Originally published on http://itsaboutthebook.com.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Recommended reading! By Rich M. I was very happy to receive an advance copy of this e-book from the author, as I really enjoyed the first Pineapple Port book. Cozy mysteries are about the only readable kind of detective fiction that I bother with now, since most of the "big name" stuff is always so dark and predictable. Ms. Vansant is a welcome breath of fresh air in the arena.I've been disappointed by other independent author cozy mysteries as of late, with recycled mysteries and cardboard characters. Pineapple Mystery Box however is one of those rare ones that are consistent, with enjoyable characterization and dialogue, and also manage a first rate whodunit at the same time.If you like the Cat Who books by Lillian Jackson Braun, or the Lighthouse Mystery stories of Tim Myers, I think you will definitely enjoy Amy Vansant's quirky little retreat at Pineapple Port!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Hilarious! By anonymous I've read both Pineapple Port books and both are great! There were a few twists in this one that were fun and 2 I didn't see coming. I really like Charlotte and Declan and all of the old folks. I love that Charlotte lives in a 55 and older community being only 26. It's a great premise and I look forward to what comes next. They're great, easy, funny reads.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. "You said they demanded an unmentionable." By N.C.N. These Pineapple books are ridiculously good. They are bursting with charm. I think it's something about the sing-songy way the sentences roll into one another. Or maybe it's the way that the author makes you feel like you're on the inside track of the trendiest bit of pop culture to come along in a long time. It's those things, but it's also super funny.Charlotte is a great character and the premise of this second book is great. If you are forming any preconceived doubts, cast them away! This book can and will be enjoyed by anybody. I actually think this is the type of book that would be good to read simultaneously with a friend or spouse, so you can sort of talk about the mystery and which parts you think are funniest.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Fable packaged as reality By Andres Pedraza This book pretends to be fact, and tells the story of a couple of Islamic terrorists who set off a bomb in an Indian market. It blows up too soon and they are caught in the blast. The story is as "told" by one of the terrorists to a casual acquaintance, asking him to write the story for the good of mankind. It goes on to delve into the mindset of the one terrorist, from victim of Indian Military brutality to terrorist training camp to hospital after the blast to retiring from terrorism altogether. The other terrorist caught in the blast died, but not before explaining to the survivor that both sides in the terror / anti-terror battle are simply pawns being used by the people in power to further their own agendas to accumulate even more power. While I don't doubt that there's a certain amount of truth in that, it is very naive to think that someone actually lived through the events narrated and came out a better and wiser person after them. The book would carry more weight if it were presented as a modern day fable, especially since, as I have admitted, there is a certain amount of truth in the background analysis, and it brings with it a good moral. It's a good read if you've nothing else handy, but not something I would put in my "must read" pile.

A Jack the Ripper type killer is murdering male prostitutes, with one exception... A young woman is found brutally attacked with a straight razor, her cruel facial mutilation the only link to three other horrific murders: a transgender woman, a transvestite, and a 17-year-old hustler. So nasty are the kills of those three born-males that the psychopath seems to be saying, they're all males... FROM HELL he scrawls, taunting the NYPD with the words written in 1888 to the police by the original Jack the Ripper. The cops are sickened and at a loss: this killer is too cunning, wears gloves and disguises, leaves no physical evidence, and kills again. Just one small favor, the police ask physicians Jill Raney and David Levine, friends and - until now, detectives on their own. "No warrant? No problem!" had been their mantra...until their relationship with the cops got crazy; led to exhaustion and conflict. But they share the horror that grips the country and agree to help, thus plunging into a terrifying maze of psycho-sexual obsession and madness. Complicating matters further is their adopted little son Jesse, dubbed "the miracle baby" by the media, now a sweet little chatterbox showing signs that he may have yet another special gift that Jill and David are only beginning to recognize...

Decades of being married to a physician who loves explaining medical concepts and reliving his experiences means there'll be medical concepts even in "regular" thrillers that she writes. Terrific Addition to the Series By Hillel Kaminsky No Spoilers:A person styling himself or herself as a modern day Jack the Ripper has killed 3 people; a transvestite, a male prostitute and a transgendered woman. The killings are particularly violent with the throat slashed with a razor, the face cut up and the prostate removed as a trophy. (Jack took his victims uteri as trophies). It seems clear that the killer has a special hatred for transgendered and transvestites (perhaps for being “fake” women), but the pattern is broken when he or she kills Kimmie Clark, a “born-female.” One witness reports seeing a tall woman in a blond wig, but it is not at all clear if the killer is male or female or perhaps transgendered. The killer appears to return to pattern when he or she kills again.Fortunately for the police, Doctors David Levine and Jill Raney are again on hand to lend their assistance, doing things the cops cannot legally do. Raney and Levine continue to be fascinating and compelling characters whom the reader cannot help but care about. I was pleased that there was a good amount of subplot involving Jesse. I have no idea where the author is going with this, but look forward to finding out in future books. The family scenes felt genuine and warm mixed with parental concern as to what is happening with their extraordinary son. I also liked that the ancillary characters, although not central to the plot, made appearances and were still involved in Raney, Levine and Jesse’s life.Despite the killer thinking (or perhaps fantasizing) of killing both Raney and Levine they did not seem to be in any real danger. Nonetheless, tension was maintained by the uncertainty as to the identity of the killer and most importantly, whether he or she would strike again. (He or she did). The story is really good and the characters are fantastic. As always with this series, I cannot wait for the next book.

By Brenda Telford Husband and wife team, Doctors Jill Raney and David Levine were having a well-earned week’s vacation from their very demanding job; the hospital's maternity section where they spent their shifts was always busy. But their work with the police also demanded a lot of their time and the birth of their now three year old son Jesse had made news around the world.Jill and David’s relaxation after a night at the opera was interrupted by a call from one of their police friends – Kerri had bad news to impart. And with that, their vacation was over! A serial killer was murdering male prostitutes and transvestites – but the latest kill was slightly different. They knew it was the same psychopath though – the identifying mutilation was identical to the three previous murders…Emulating 1888’s Jack the Ripper, this killer disgusted and haunted the police. Never had they seen it so bad – but with little evidence to go on, the frustration of the police was high. Once again Jill and David were asked to help the police. Going where the police couldn’t, David and Jill could find information that eluded the detectives. But as the killer escalated, so too did the danger to those chasing him. And especially to Jill – as the terror mounted, she knew she needed to catch this crazy person; but at what cost?Wow! Once again author J.A. Schneider has hit the jackpot with Razor Sharp. #6 in the Raney & Levine series it is filled with intense and chilling twists and turns. A psychopathic killer; frustrated cops; two doctors in as deep as can be; and one cute as a button three year old! I love Jesse – he’s an incredibly smart little boy, and so cute! Once again, I highly recommend this series, and also recommend starting at #1, Embryo.

Schneider, M.DSeries: Embryo 6Reviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: FiveReview:"Razor Sharp" by J.A. SchneiderMy Thoughts....Another well written story of the 'Embryo 6 series' by this author. We find with "Razor Sharp" with Jill and David the duo doctor couple while on vacation do it once again helping the police catch the psycho who was murdering featuring 'transvestites. trams gender woman and a 17 year old hustler.' Be ready for a little bit of it all as this bad person is brought down in this bloody mystery thriller suspenseful novel with a lots of twist and turns. I would recommend to get it all from the Embryo series to start with the first one and read you way through to this series. You will not be disappointed at all, however this series is a standalone read. Here they are is you would like to take a look at them:"Series order:Embryo ..... Is a malignant genius tinkering with women's bodies?Embryo 2: Crosshairs ... A killer stalks women & an unborn baby.Embryo 3: Raney & Levine...A murderous religious zealot threatens women ("sinners!") and a newborn.Embryo 4: Catch Me ... A serial killer just targets couples.Embryo 5: Silver Girl ... A beautiful young TV star dies mysteriously...NEW! EMBRYO 6: RAZOR SHARP: A Jack the Ripper type killer is murdering male prostitutes: A transvestite, a transgender woman, a 17-year-old hustler - to him, they're all males. Police again ask Jill & David to help..."This author seems to have mastered it all in 'being so creative with such thought provoking stories and giving you such a good understanding of the medical and even the detective world.' I love how she was able to bring into the story of Jill and David's son....the three year old Jesse who proved to be quite helpful in this case. I will stop here and say to get the whole story you will just have to pick up "Razor Sharp" to see for yourself how well this story is presented to the readers. I found this novel a page turner and had me guessing right up to the end who the corrupt murderer was. Will there be a Embryo 7? Well. I guess we will just have to wait and see!
