Fable packaged as reality By Andres Pedraza This book pretends to be fact, and tells the story of a couple of Islamic terrorists who set off a bomb in an Indian market. It blows up too soon and they are caught in the blast. The story is as "told" by one of the terrorists to a casual acquaintance, asking him to write the story for the good of mankind. It goes on to delve into the mindset of the one terrorist, from victim of Indian Military brutality to terrorist training camp to hospital after the blast to retiring from terrorism altogether. The other terrorist caught in the blast died, but not before explaining to the survivor that both sides in the terror / anti-terror battle are simply pawns being used by the people in power to further their own agendas to accumulate even more power.While I don't doubt that there's a certain amount of truth in that, it is very naive to think that someone actually lived through the events narrated and came out a better and wiser person after them. The book would carry more weight if it were presented as a modern day fable, especially since, as I have admitted, there is a certain amount of truth in the background analysis, and it brings with it a good moral. It's a good read if you've nothing else handy, but not something I would put in my "must read" pile.
