Lawrence Darmody and his oldest friends take a trip together to temporarily escape the humdrum of their very different lives. Some of them are preoccupied by the secrets they want to bury and some of them don't fully understand the secrets they have buried deep within them. Eddie Stubbs is a loner. But he is trying to shake that image by taking a school trip. It just so happens that the girl of his dreams is taking the same trip. Peter Kilfedder is a veteran Detective with little time for anyone, even his own family these days. None of them have any idea how intertwined their fates are by events that began 20 years ago. And none of them are prepared for the deepest, darkest beasts lurking within and without... This is the full novel from which the Birth of the Beast novellas are taken.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Had to put it down. By AgSpiral Rarely do I give up on a book but this is one of the exception. There seemed to be an underlieing hatred for men permeating the writing. Not one of the men in the story was made out to of decent character.I found the dialog to be overly wordy without much action to accompany along it. The timeline jumped around and tended to make the reading from chapter to chapter jarring and abrupt.I'm still trying to understand the odd portrayal of the werewolves. The author seemed to be interjecting some kind of psychic type abilities that tended to take away from their believability . Also everything leading up to an attack would be very descriptive, but then the attact would be quickly glossed over with little or no detail; then back to overbearing mostly internal dialog.Like I mentioned, made it to chapter two/ section eleven but had had enough and put it down. Maybe somone else might see this book for something I missed.
