Also, there was no explanation given for a major plot point (someone isn't who they say they are but there isn't an explanation for why they lied about their identity). All in all though it was good and I hope there is another book featuring Starla and the gang.

By donniedarkogirl Starla Cupp and her best friend, Poppy (I love her name!), run the Dixie Cupp (yep, spelled with two p's) Diner together. I love their friendship; they're truly best friends who support each other. It's so nice to see two strong women supporting one another - no tearing each other down going on here! Just really refreshing.At first I thought the town of Sugar Hill was a cozy one where everyone knows everyone but quickly discovered while everyone does know each other, they don't necessarily like each other. There are a lot of secrets floating around, and it's anything BUT a cozy little town. There are some serious shenanigans going down.I laughed when the police chief, who's a major health nut, gets roped in by the mayor to judge the annual cupcake contest. There went Starla's hopes of keeping up her winning streak!I loved Starla. She says she doesn't just let things happen to her - she says she lives life on purpose, and I really love that motto. Starla made me want to start living my life "on purpose" and stop feeling like everything is out of my control.The twist was a surprise. I might have seen it coming a tad, but I was left guessing there for a while.I just really really want more of these characters and searched to see if the author is planning on it. Not sure at this point, but I think chances are good. I definitely want more Starla!I also bought a book by the author called Mall Santa Murder for 99 cents because I enjoyed her writing so much.So happy to have been able to scoop up Pumpkin Spice & a Body On Ice for free! I feel lucky to have discovered such great characters and writing!

Jennings Far too many implausible scenarios and unrealistic government responses to catastropic occurences. Though definitely a fun story with very good vocabulary there were just too many instances where the reader was distracted with inconsistences and unlikely outcomes.

This includes his writing style, which clearly paints actions and surroundings with pertinent details but without verbosity. Kent's plot lines remain fresh but credible as well as contemporary. Readers in 2015 will relate to any type of terrorism. "The Wager" presents some unexpected motivations for causing destruction. Part of the thrill of reading this mystery comes from thinking things cannot get worse, yet they do. Similarly, with each of Kent's new novels, when I think it can't be equal to or better than his previous writings, it is! I continue to be amazed at Kent's ability to create such a variety of novels with each one fresh and entertaining.

The premise, two competing network anchors making a wager to influence the outcome of a presidential election, sounded like a must read. The absurd, violent, underworld methods became barely readable. I struggled to read the book hoping there would be an improvement. There wasn't.

Good to be back in Tequila Key By Ellabythesea I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of this book which was great because as soon as I finished the first in the series I wanted this one to be done.Once again it was fun to be back with these two friends; their connected shops and lives. I was glad to have more magick and men as well. Already looking forward to the next adventure and I only wish they were double the pages to stay in their world longer.

By Texas The whole gang is back in this installment of the Althea Rose series, which starts shortly after Tequila for One ends. Luna, the witch, wants Althea to explore the magic powers she revealed in the first story. They go to the beach so Luna can teach Thea how to cast the circle of protection. Thea is not good at following orders so when her cellphone rings and she steps out of the circle to answer, a huge surprise and a feeling of intense evil await! And then there are the murders, the Pagan festival, the uncertainty about the boyfriends, Cash and Trace, and a whole lot of fun. Miss Elva, of course, plays an important role in saving Luna's and Althea's lives. I noticed at the end of this story that the author is planning another story with these funky characters. I can't wait to read more. I was given an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review.

This is definitely a paranormal mystery that includes a psychic, white witch, & voodoo priestess. It is action packed & doesn't slow down from beginning to end! There are also humorous situations interspersed, like the shark scene that brought quite a few chuckles from me. I completely enjoyed both this book & the first book - couldn't put it down!

By A Hopeless Romantic's Booklandia Oh, how good it was to read about my Death Dwellers again! It has been far too long since I've visited them or read one of Ms. Kelly's books and I can't tell you how much I missed them! It was all extraordinary and I completely, totally LOOOOOOVED Misconduct!!Okay, if you haven't read any of the books in this series or even if you've read a few, you need to read them all before you read Misconduct otherwise you're most likely going to be confused or you're going to get a lot of spoilers you might not want to know when you plan on reading the previous books.I had no idea what was going on with Digger to make him do what he did in the past, but I never considered not reading his book because of his decisions. I did and do feel good about Digger now that I know his side, I don't agree with everything, but I'm not mad at the guy. Don't get me wrong though, I did get angry with him and thought he was a jerk and not so smart sometimes, but for all of his faults - Digger is still a good man with a good heart. He's might not be my favorite - that title goes to Mort and Christopher - but he did redeem himself and I do love him!Alright, the heroine is tricky with this book, so I'm not going to give you any names because I don't want to spoil things since there's not much in the synopsis about her. I will tell you, however, that I looooved her! She's strong and brave with a heart of gold! She's sweet and kind, but she's got some sass to her - I loved all that about her, but especially how after going through some tough times, she was still able to stay that way. That, to me, is just so amazing and it fits this amazing heroine!Misconduct, much like the other Death Dwellers MC books, is not easy to read. It's hard and dark abd full of pain, heartbreak, and betrayal. There are moments when it made me sick to my stomach, stabbed me in the heart, and punched me in gut, moments that shocked me and made me feel like my whole was turned upside down, and moments that made me want to sob and just squeeze a pillow half to death. But even with all the negative feelings, there came so many positive ones that made every hurt worth it. This book made me laugh and smile and it melted my heart and made me do the girly, happy sigh thing. There are times that are so sweet and so cute that make you ache. Yes, Misconduct is dark, but it's also full of a deep love that will touch your heart and fill it with lightness and warmth.I could not have asked for a better, final full length novel in the series from Ms. Kelly than the one she gave us with Misconduct. It was undeniably epic, crazy, and captivating with tons of action, passion, and heart. It was a truly spectacular ending and I wholeheartedly loved it!!Misconduct is not a standalone, it's told from multiple points of view, and Digger does get his HEA with his heroine!~ Sonja, 5 Stars

Kathryn Kelly has and amazing thought process. I can't believe how well she kept it all straight in her head never mind putting it to paper. This is the final full length Death Dweller MC novel and OMG she really hit this one out of the park. She tied up all the loose ends. She has developed such an amazing dialogue between characters at times I feel like they have there own language. I love Christopher "Outlaw", he will always be my favorite of her characters. The man is a genius. In this book we really ventured into his vulnerable side but of course Megan straightens his ass out. I'm trying to avoid spoilers but I have to say I always thought Digger was redeemable. I just want more, I would love to see this series go on and on. I can't wait for Cash's story. I have to say I still hate Kendall. She is the most selfish bitch I think I've ever read about. Every time she opens her mouth I want to slap her. I understand mental illness but really she is so hateful and callous I think she should go back to inpatient care! Anyhow I can't say enough about how well written this novel is. I love love love it! Thank you Kat!

The characters all have a place in my heart...some more than others (Kendall not so much..lol) This book I couldn't wait to read because I had to know Diggers fate, as I read more and more teasers I thought for sure the family that has formed within this MC would never be the same and in some ways it's not. As always Christopher "Outlaw" Caldwell is my favorite and he as always is a badass! Christopher takes his family on a roller coaster ride trying to find his son, find Digger to put him to ground and be there for Meggie throughout. I thought this book had so much emotion and WTF moments, It's a wild ride that's for sure. A lot happens within the MC and I was on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait for more in this series. In this book I was shocked, saddened, happy, and cheered for Christopher as always!. Another amazing story within this series by Kathryn. Loved every minute of it.

By T Brough I had the privilege of getting this book from Bookouture and Netgalley and I honestly want to thank them for that.This book gripped me from the start and did not let go until the end.The book jumps between the past and the present, in order for the reader to better understand the main character Laurie's life and current problems. I did not find that the jumping around made me confused, as it was done well, it wasn't done senselessly.Throughout the book I had sympathy with Laurie and her desire to be reunited with her daughter, after the fire, and her desire to keep her daughter save.The way the book was written, in hours, like the tv show 24, kept the book fast-paced and I honestly could not put it down. I jumped between villains, and believed everybody was the baddie, because it was written in such a way that there was no clear cut bad guy!!! When the bad guy was revealed, it made sense, if you kept the storyline in your mind. The ending was done well, and all my curiosities were answered! Thanks for a very nice read, I can't wait to get my hands on others of ms Seeber!

Imagine the same show but not with a spy who runs around the world but with a mother trying to protect her child. Imagine all that and you'll get the gripping story of Claire Seeber, 24 Hours.Laurie runs for her life. Not just for hers, but also her daughter's. Someone is after her and she is in danger. She hides in a hotel, but her best friend dies instead of her. Her little girl is missing and she has no idea where and why. She has no idea who is after her but she knows one thing: her little girl has to be safe!Twenty-four hours ago everything seemed fine. Twenty-four hours ago her daughter was safe and sound. Twenty-four hours ago, she was planning a future. Now, she suspects everyone, from her ex-husband to her new boyfriend, someone wants her dead. She is going to die if she needs to, but she'll find out who and why, and the most important thing, who has her daughter.Wow, I've never read so fast-paced story! From one page to another, the story moves from one edge to totally another, from one turn-over you suddenly end-up into another. There is no single page that doesn't keep you on the edge, not a single scene that doesn't make your jaw drop. Adrenaline-paced, gripping, rushed, describes every mother's worst nightmare: her child's safety! But there were moments when I was wondering about the realty around the main character. She seemed so real, but in same time so paranoid, so frightened. I was asking myself was her fear real or everything was just an overactive imagination. But as the story continued, Laurie's accusations became like a ping-pong game: it's him, not him, no, it's him! It became really exhausting and at the end, I didn't care. The pace at the ending of the story turned in the wrong direction (according to me) and ruined the whole impression (for me). But overall, I enjoyed the adrenaline rush and tension and will be in search of other Ms.Seeber's books in future.My opinion: 3,5 / 5.

By Liz Barnsley 24 Hours ranks up amongst the best thrillers I've read in 2015 - and thats saying something because I've read a lot of them. Its been the year of the psychological thriller, some good, some terrible, some simply enjoyable then one or two that have been truly excellent because they offer something more for me as a reader than surface entertainment. 24 Hours is one of those.On the one hand, this is a page turning, tension inducing race against time - We spend 24 hours with Laurie as she races across country, desperate to reach her daughter before her ex-husband - who she believes is trying to kill her. Suffering both mentally and physically from the aftermath of a fire that has just killed her best friend, many obstacles are thrown in her path, not least her own inability to focus. This makes for some great edge of the seat moments, some intriguing twist and turns and creates the kind of read that is highly addictive.Then there is another layer - many of them in fact - as we see in flashback the relationship Laurie has with her ex, their lives together and here is where the story took on an added emotional core quite aside from the thriller aspects. With a subtle and deft touch, Claire Seeber explores the theme of destructive relationships, obsessive love and the diffiulties of removing yourself from a situation that is damaging. Sid is an entirely fascinating character, creative, haunted, intense, yet oddly sympathetic despite his actions - even given the fact that he is possibly an attempted murderer. Blurring the lines, showing that these things are not simply black and white - the emotive core of the story only makes the journey Laurie is on more absorbing and utterly riveting.The fact that I really did not know how this was going to all pan out just made it even better - it was unpredictable, compelling and for me completely brilliant. I was almost tearful at the end, I felt like I'd been through the wringer. Some top notch construction, the author moves her characters around like pieces on a chessboard, making you question everything including Laurie herself -at the same time exploring the vagaries of human nature and all its fallibilities. Really really excellent.With 24 hours you can have a fast paced thrill ride of a novel but you can also have a delicate character driven tale - the best of both worlds for this reader and as such the book comes highly recommended from me.**Received via Netgalley**

It isn't even on the level of the Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys mysteries -- which were actually entertaining and well written. There is no depth here; there are huge grammatical errors, and cardboard characters. I laughed out loud at some of the elementary writing -- but not because it was intended be funny. Not worth anyone's time or effort -- would not recommend for even my 5 year old grandson.

It is a short mystery with a woman, her dog and a lot of fiction. I think this is Mary Hiker's second short story, I'm certain she'll have a large following before long. Thumbs up.

I am a true dog lover and this hits the spot. I cannot wait until the next one comes out. If you have read Susan Conant, you'll love theses. They are short and truly sweet.
